Minimize the dangerous creosote buildup in the fireplace. For this, burn only well-dried and seasoned wood. Take care to annually examine the flue, firebox and chimney in order to keep a check on creosote accumulation.
When you build a fire in the fireplace, be in the habit of placing a heat-tempered glass on the hearth or a screen, which is made of sturdy metal. This will effectively stop the burning wood or sparks to escape from the fireplace and put your house on fire.
To remove the buildup of creosote tars from the grate and fireplace tools, just take it outside your house and simply hose it down. Then sprinkling an abrasive cleanser on the surface, scrub it with the help of a steel-wool soap pad or a stiff bristle brush. You can also apply some polish on them to make them shine.
